Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Jim Ross and Jake Roberts are on commentary this week for Saturday Night. Ross notes that Roberts isn’t done with Sting. Roberts says there’s a lot of things going down in WCW and promises that things have just begun with Sting and says he’s looking at other guys over the next few weeks. Roberts believes Rick Rude will get what he wants because he’s a snake, which is in reference to Rude losing a chance to become NWA World Champion recently.
2.) Sasaki hits a sloppy top rope bulldog, but then delivers an impressive takeover arm drag and picks up the win on Donovan. Sasaki looked pretty good throughout the match.
3.) Backstage, Sting is interviewed by Teddy Long. Sting is wrestling Brian Pillman tonight. Sting thinks Pillman needs a serious attitude adjustment and he wants to straighten out Pillman’s attitude tonight.
4.) Badd picks up the win following a top rope sunset flip, and appears to be generating a strong babyface reaction. After the match, Badd is attacked by Starr, but Starr gets knocked out by a punch.
5.) Jim Ross and Jake Roberts chat a bit with Roberts saying that people should expect the unexpected on live television for the Clash of the Champions on November 18th.
6.) Jim Ross interviews Johnny B. Badd, who says he’s a bad man. Scotty Flamingo comes out and confronts Badd saying that he’s prettier than Badd. Flamingo claims Cindy Crawford asks for tips from him. Badd tells Flamingo he has something to make Flamingo pretty and puts a lips sticker on his cheek. Flamingo proceeds to deck Badd with a right hand full of coins. Badd is escorted out of the scene by officials.
7.) Austin wins his match following the Stun Gun.
8.) Jim Ross and Jake Roberts talk about the Omni eight man steel cage street fight rules. Roberts says when you tell eight men they can do whatever they want you’re asking for more than you can handle and it will be interesting to see what happens.
9.) Ross talks about the past couple of weeks where Erik Watts has beaten his past two challengers. Roberts believes Michael Hayes will knock the smile off of Watts face tonight.
10.) We see an interview by Tony Schiavone with Erik Watts. Watts has been training with Japanese wrestlers and has been learning the STF. Watts talks about wrestling kids in the neighborhood and says there’s no better feeling than making someone submit. We see footage from an empty arena where Watts is learning holds by the Japanese workers. Watts is explaining what we can see is happening. Watts believes he needs to make submissions a part of his move set.
11.) Michael Hayes cuts a promo saying that a mishap happened two weeks ago. Last week. Hayes blames not having his ring boots on and couldn’t get any traction. Hayes says he has his wrestling gear on tonight. Hayes notes he carries Ross on WCW Main Event. Hayes hasn’t forgotten how to fight and says Watts will be in for a fight of his life. Hayes brags about winning his first major title by beating Bill Watts.

Cook scoop slams Maggs, but misses an elbow drop attempt. Maggs nails Cook with a kick to the head. Maggs pummels Cook with right hands in the corner. Cook shoves Maggs away in the corner and hits a snap suplex for a three count. (*. I’m interested to see how this would have done in the quarter hour ratings. It feels like this would kill the viewership for the show. The crowd liked Maggs, who has a little bit of a name I’d say. So, naturally he doesn’t win. It’s not all that entertaining because there’s not really any interest in either man or reason to care about them.)
14.) Jim Ross conducts an interview with WCW United States Champion Rick Rude and Madusa. Ross talks about Rude’s match with Barry Windham tonight. Rude says that starting with Windham is a great place to start. Rude says we’ll find out if Windham can live up to his bloodline, and doesn’t think he can. Rude says Bill Watts has tried to railroad since he’s arrived to WCW. Rude says Watts needs to realize that he has an exposed nerve and it’s Erik Watts. Rude warns that Erik will be forced to pay for Bill’s actions tonight.
15.) Williams hits a running powerslam to win his enhancement match in short order.
16.) Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Brian Pillman. Pillman says a fresh outlet is amazing for someone. Pillman wouldn’t have been wrestling Sting two months ago. Tom Zenk enters the scene and Pillman tells Zenk he can’t take a hint. Pillman claims beautiful women are chasing after him. Paul E. Dangerously enters the scene and asks if Zenk has the attitude. Zenk calls Dangerously a loser. Zenk asks if Pillman is proud to be associating with a geek like Dangerously and doesn’t have respect for either man.
17.) WCW World Champion Ron Simmons is at ringside watching Robbie Walker’s match. Walker has been having issues with Cactus Jack, Barbarian and Tony Atlas in recent weeks. Walker pins Parker with a cradle to win the match.
18.) Jim Ross interviews WCW World Champion Ron Simmons and Robby Walker. Simmons puts over Walker as having what it takes to succeed in wrestling. Simmons warns Tony Atlas that he needs to learn how to talk before he tries to talk crap about him. Simmons doesn’t need anyone fighting his battles, but thanks Walker for his service. Simmons asks where Cactus and all them are at now that the odds are different. Simmons promises the odds will be different the next time they try to jump him.
19.) Backstage, Erik Watts is interviewed by Teddy Long. Watts wants to make two things clear. There was never a Freebird that beat his father. Watts will never give up and he’ll keep on coming.

Hayes kicks Watts and tries for a DDT, but Watts shoves Hayes away. Watts hits a fisherman suplex for the clean win. (*1/2. Probably better than it should have been. They didn’t lull the viewer to sleep and kept a fairly good pace with their action throughout.)
21.) Jake Roberts promises Erik Watts will have to pay for the sins of Bill Watts.
22.) Jim Ross chats with Paul El Dangerously. Dangerously says Erik Watts is a great athlete and claims Hayes has a fever and a mild case of pneumonia. Dangerously continues to suggest nepotism since Bill Watts runs the company. We see footage from Halloween Havoc showing the interaction between Dangerously and Madusa. Dangerously fired Madusa and was met with a kick to the head. Dangerously tells Ross that he’s a man and they are here to dominate women. Women are here to satisfy the male species. Dangerously wants a little bit of time on TV to settle their differences. Bill Watts walks into the scene to confront Dangerously. Watts can see why Dangerously isn’t married. Dangerously claims his father is in control of the TV and his mother does what his father says. Watts suggests primetime TV time. Watts gives Dangerously Clash of the Champions on November 18th and Dangerously will have one hand tied behind his back. Dangerously knows Watts hates his guts because he could run the company better. Dangerously wonders why Watts would give him what he wants and that’s because they are both men. Dangerously promises Madusa will get on her hands and knees to worship him.
23.) Douglas and Pierce kickoff the tag team match. Pierce shoves Douglas away and backs Douglas into a corner to deliver a few right hands. Douglas responds with strikes and a shoulder block. Douglas hip tosses Pierce followed by a dropkick. All four men are in the ring where Steamboat and Douglas deliver backdrops and dropkicks to send the heels to the floor. Tex returns to the match and knee lifts Steamboat. Pierce strikes Steamboat a few times, but is yanked down to the mat. Douglas is ready for a tag on the apron. Douglas continues with scoop slams and dropkicks both men. Douglas forearms Tex, but Pierce makes the save. Pierce tosses Steamboat to the floor. Douglas hits a crossbody on Tex as Steamboat tripped Pierce from the floor. Douglas pins Tex for the win! (*1/2. The crowd was mostly dead for this, but they popped for Steamboat making the hot tag. There wasn’t much to this, but it’s a decent win for Douglas and Steamboat.)
24.) Jim Ross interviews WCW Tag Team Champion Dustin Rhodes. Ross asks if there’s jealously between Dustin and Windham, but Rhodes says it is not true. Rhodes promises a classic bout with Steamboat and Douglas. Steamboat and Douglas enter the scene to chat with Rhodes. Steamboat says that he goes back a bit with Rhodes and thanks Dustin for giving them an opportunity for the tag titles. Dustin says opportunity knocks only a few times and tells them to bring everything they got, but a little bit more. Steamboat likes his attitude and they’ll be at the Clash.
25.) Backstage, Barry Windham is interviewed by Teddy Long. Long notes that Windham is wrestling WCW United States Champion Rick Rude tonight. Windham says that Rude wasn’t just handed the WCW United States Championship and they’re going to find out just how good they both are tonight.
26.) Earlier today, Tony Schiavone had an interview with Jake Roberts for WCW Up Close. Schiavone recalls Roberts wanting to be the main man in WCW. Roberts says the DDT is the best hold in wrestling and everyone knows it. Roberts says if he hits the move people don’t know what’s going on for a few days. Roberts notes that people don’t use the DDT anymore because they know that Roberts will use it on them. Roberts puts over WCW World Champion Ron Simmons as a great man. Roberts warns that Simmons is going to pay a price that he can’t afford to pay. Roberts promises when the time is right he’ll touch Simmons and Sting. Roberts talks about the ruling that snakes aren’t allowed at ringside. Roberts says Bill Watts missed the mark and should be worried about the DDT. Roberts talks about next week and how next week it is time for him to touch Dustin Rhodes and tells Dustin to enjoy his week.

Windham suplexs Rude into the ring from the apron for a near fall as Rude reaches the ropes. They collide on stereo clothesline attempts. Windham tries for a slam, but Rude counters with a rollup and holds the ropes to steal the match. (**. The finish felt a little bit messed up and the crowd didn’t seem to react to much of what they’re doing. Windham seems to be getting a bit jealous of Dustin, so it’s normal for a babyface to lose matches before eventually turning heel. I’d consider this a bit of a disappointment. Also, Madusa was fired by Dangerously, but she’s still associated with Rude?)
29.) Sting backs Pillman into a corner, but avoids a hip toss attempt by Pillman by holding the ropes. Sting puts a headlock on Pillman, but Pillman chops Sting in the corner several times. Pillman tries for a crucifix, but Sting counters by slamming Pillman to the mat for a two count. Pillman pulls Sting through the ropes to the floor. Pillman rolls Sting back into the ring and leaps off the top to hit a crossbody, but Sting rolls through for a two count. Sting back suplexs Pillman for the three count. (**1/4. It looked like Sting had a handful of tights, but that was ignored by commentary. Pillman generated a good heel reaction from the crowd, which surprised me a little bit, but they cared to jeer him. The action was decent, but Sting winning with a simple back suplex felt a little lame to me.)
Final Thoughts:
An average episode this week with the best segment being Paul E. Dangerously being a jerk to Madusa. There wasn’t a standout match by any means, but WCW putting their top names on TV on a routine basis is such a different shift than WWF that their shows are easy to watch.
Thanks for reading.
