Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Jim Ross is the host of WCW Power Hour. Ross runs through what we’re scheduled to see this week.
2.) Sting dominates his enhancement match and wins the match with the Scorpion Death Lock.
3.) We see footage from a recent tag title match between the Dangerous Alliance and the Steiner Brothers where the Alliance hit a spike brainbuster on Rick Steiner. Ross will be talking to the Steiner Brothers later on in the program.
4.) Scott and Hughes kickoff the tag match with Scott backing Hughes into a corner. Scott trips Hughes to the mat, but Hughes quickly reaches the ropes. Hughes eye rakes Scott and decks Scott to the mat followed by a right hand. Hughes shoulder blocks Scott and taunts the fans after a leapfrog. Scott tosses Hughes overhead with a suplex causing Hughes to bail to the floor to regroup. Vader enters and backs Scott into the corner and delivers forearm strikes. Vader clubs Scott in the corner and hits a splash on Scott. Vader nails Scott with a short arm clothesline. Vader scoop slams Scott and comes off the ropes, but is slammed by Scott. Scott ducks a clothesline and sunset flips Vader, but Vader hits a sit down splash. Hughes works over Scott with strikes. Hughes misses a splash in the corner. Rick tags in and backdrops Hughes. Rick punches Vader off the apron and clotheslines Hughes for the win. After the match, Vader tosses Scott to the floor, but there’s nothing else that happens. (*. This went less than four minutes and it wasn’t anywhere near the quality of their Clash match. It kind of felt like a dark match they had the TV taping and then decided to put it on TV to fill time.)
5.) Zbyszko controls his enhancement match managing to prevail over Bronson with a stretch hold on the mat forcing a submission. The crowd didn’t respond one bit to this. After the match, Zbyszko delivers a brainbuster.
6.) Armstrong tries to shake hands, but Morton jabs Armstrong and delivers an arm drag. Morton heads to the top, but is caught in midair with a slam by Armstrong. Armstrong keeps control on the mat with a side headlock. Morton sends Armstrong into the ropes, but Armstrong stomps Morton on the face and keeps headlock control again. Morton knee lifts free and sends Armstrong to the floor. Armstrong quickly returns looking for a rollup for a near fall and keeps headlock control. Morton backs Armstrong into a corner and delivers a shoulder ram. Armstrong goes back to headlock control after Morton is sent into the corner. Morton gains control with a head scissors on the mat. Morton delivers an atomic drop and Armstrong regroups in the ropes. Morton knee lifts Armstrong and delivers a strike to the midsection before delivering another knee lift. Armstrong inside cradles Morton, but Morton recovers to plant Armstrong with a DDT. Morton tries for a cover, but only manages a two count. Morton keeps Armstrong on the mat with a sleeper. Armstrong sunset flips Morton for a near fall, but Morton cuts Armstrong off with a clothesline for a two count. Morton scoop slams Armstrong and delivers a knee drop for a near fall. Armstrong misses a shoulder ram in the corner hitting the turnbuckle. Morton leg drops Armstrong on the arm. Morton keeps arm control on Armstrong.
Armstrong drives Morton to the mat face first. Armstrong backdrops Morton coming out of the corner. Morton begs off and pulls Armstrong through the ropes to the floor. Morton rams Armstrong into the ring post. Morton sends Armstrong to the floor, but Armstrong leaps off the top rope hitting a crossbody to pin Morton for the win. After the match, Morton attacks Armstrong coming off the top and driving his knee into the back of Armstrong’s head. (**. They got plenty of time and the action was decent for the most part. The crowd didn’t come across overly entertained, but it was a fine undercard bout.)
7.) Missy Does The Mail hosted by Missy Hyatt is up next. Hyatt says that Cactus Jack and Larry Zbyszko will team up to battle Cactus Jack and Abdullah The Butcher on Main Event. We see footage from Main Event where Simmons slammed Cactus off the apron to the floor and the loud thud that happened. Eventually there was a brawl causing the match to be thrown out. Hyatt doesn’t think Simmons can trust Butcher. Hyatt believes this is all conspiracy by Paul E. Dangerously. Hyatt thinks Simmons will probably get what he deserves for not asking for her help.
8.) Eaton and Steamboat kickoff the six man tag main event. Steamboat sends Eaton into the ropes, but Eaton hits a swinging neckbreaker. Eaton tags out to Anderson and Anderson strikes Steamboat to keep control of the bout. Anderson yanks on the arm and yanks Steamboat to the mat several times. Steamboat heel kicks Anderson to the mat. Anderson regroups in the corner. Anderson backs Steamboat against the ropes and delivers a shoulder ram several times followed by a left hand punch to the midsection. Steamboat kicks Anderson, Eaton and Austin to the floor to stand tall in the ring. Simmons tags into the match and keeps arm control on Anderson. Simmons sends Anderson into the ropes and locks in a bearhug. Eaton knee lifts Simmons from behind. Simmons clotheslines all three Alliance members and stands tall in the ring, too. Austin enters the match to try his luck against Simmons. Rhodes tags into the match, but Austin backs off quickly. Austin puts a hammerlock on Rhodes, but doesn’t get a submission. Rhodes hip tosses Austin followed by elbow strikes for all three Alliance members. Eaton staggers around the ring and is decked by all three opponents before bailing to the floor.
Austin backs Rhodes into a corner and tags in Anderson to gain control with a knee lift. Anderson keeps a wrist lock on Rhodes. Rhodes drop toe holds Anderson and keeps arm control on the mat. Rhodes is backed into the corner and fights off, but Anderson eye rakes Rhodes. Anderson rams Rhodes into Eaton causing Eaton to crash to the floor. Austin stomps Rhodes on the mat several times. Austin elbows Rhodes coming off the ropes to keep the advantage and rams Rhodes into Anderson’s knee in the corner. Anderson strikes Rhodes in the midsection and connects with a knee drop. Rhodes punches Anderson several times, but Anderson and Eaton double team Rhodes. Anderson sends Rhodes into the corner and maintains the advantage. Rhodes nearly wins with an inside cradle. Austin decks Rhodes with a clothesline for a near fall. Eaton leaps off the top to strike Rhodes to the mat. Eaton keeps a wrist lock on Rhodes to maintain the advantage. Rhodes punches Eaton several times, but Eaton tosses Rhodes to the floor.
Anderson leaps off the apron to axe handle Rhodes, but Steamboat runs over and attacks Anderson. Austin strikes Steamboat, but Steamboat continues to strike Anderson. Anderson knee drops Steamboat, who is protecting Rhodes in the ring. Rhodes backslides Anderson, but the referee doesn’t see it and Austin makes the save. Anderson scoop slams Rhodes. Rhodes rams Anderson into Austin’s knee in the corner. Simmons gets the hot tag and shoulder blocks Eaton. Simmons delivers football tackles to the Alliance. All six men are in the ring brawling as the referee has lost control of the match. Anderson grabs Simmons, but Simmons catches Eaton coming off the top to deliver a spinebuster for the win. After the match, Anderson plants Simmons with a DDT. Larry Zbyszko runs into the ring and helps his friends. Zbyszko and Anderson deliver a spike piledriver to Steamboat. Eaton connects with the Alabama Jam on Steamboat. Barry Windham storms the ring with a 2×4 to scare the Dangerous Alliance off. (**1/4. An average six man tag match. I’m glad Simmons got the pin here as he’s one guy that benefits from picking up a win over the Dangerous Alliance. The aftermath was effective, too.)
Final Thoughts:
They loaded up the show with plenty of star power and we got mostly average wrestling throughout, so it’s not a bad show this week for Power Hour.
Thanks for reading.
