Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes win their enhancement match when Rhodes pins Trout following a bulldog. I dig the team of Rhodes and Windham and I think there’s some potential here.
2.) Jim Ross talks about the post Superbrawl II celebration footage that will be seen later in the program and there’s an eight man tag main event.
3.) Vegas shoves Zenk away at the start of the match and they lockup leading to Vegas shoving Zenk to the mat again. Vegas knee lifts Zenk followed by a clothesline. Vegas taunts the fans and rams Zenk into the corner a few times. Vegas scoop slams Zenk coming out of the corner. Vegas chokes Zenk over the middle rope. Vegas continues with a back suplex and taunts the crowd. Vegas works over Zenk with strikes in the corner, but is met with a boot in the corner. Zenk dropkicks Vegas a few times. Zenk dropkicks Vegas into the ropes. Zenk is decked by something on Vegas fist as Harley Race handed Vegas a weapon. Big Josh comes down to ringside and chases Harley Race with an axe handle. Josh gets in the ring and swings at Vegas, but the referee calls for the bell as Vegas bailed from the ring. (1/2*. There wasn’t much tot his action wise and it seems as if the point of this was to put more focus on the issues between Vegas and Josh.)
4.). Johnny B. Badd won his enhancement match following a left hook after a brief encounter.
5.) Brian Pillman won his enhancement match following a springboard clothesline. Batten had gotten very brief offense that included a top rope axe handle to the floor, but Pillman winning was never a doubt here.
6.) The Freebirds win their enhancement match when Garvin pins Weston after a DDT.
7.) WCW United States Champion Rick Rude insults the fans prior to his enhancement match. Rude easily wins his match with the Rude Awakening.
8.) Missy Does the Mail is up next hosted by Missy Hyatt. Hyatt talks about the Superbrawl II celebration where WCW World Champion Sting celebrates his win, but Hyatt claims the Dangerous Alliance attacked Sting during the most boring party she’s ever witnessed. We see footage of the press conference. Sting would go to Japan, but is taking anything that comes his way. Sting puts over Lex Luger’s strength and says he’s the strongest man he’s ever battled. Jesse Ventura asks what they were saying to each other. Sting tells Ventura they were saying this is the big moment and they were ready to compete. The Dangerous Alliance enter the scene and cutoff Sting’s interview. Rude tells Sting everyone loves a party. Rude loves that Sting is the new champion and he’s the number one contender. Paul E. Dangerously pours a drink for Rude. Rude offers a toast and gives Sting a drink, but Sting refuses the drink offer. Rude tosses the drink into Sting’s face. Sting attacks Rude and they begin to brawl. Rude puts a front face lock on Sting, but Sting counters and is promptly attacked by the Dangerous Alliance. Security gets involved to break things up. Hyatt says that Sting shouldn’t be been rude and considers Sting to be a jerk. Hyatt thinks Rude’s only weakness is being associated with Dangerously and Madusa. Hyatt thinks she could offer more for Rude.
9.) Bagwell and Eaton kickoff the eight man tag main event. Eaton backs Bagwell into the corner, but Bagwell arm drags Eaton and they have a standoff. Eaton locks up with Bagwell, but Bagwell arm drags Eaton again followed by a slap across the face. Anderson tags into the match and wants Rick Steiner. Rick circles the ring to back Anderson into a corner. Anderson works over Rick in the corner with strikes. Rick clotheslines Eaton and Anderson. Rick tosses Zbyszko overhead with a suplex. Sting tags into the match and Anderson delivers a shoulder block. Sting fights back with a press slam and press slams Eaton. Scott drops Eaton over the top rope throat first from the apron. Dangerously is frustrated on the floor as his men are struggling. Cactus works over Sting with strikes and boots in the corner. Cactus runs the ropes and Sting runs the other way. Sting goes to the floor and chases Dangerously. Rick clotheslines Cactus in the ring. Scott tags into the match and puts a headlock on Eaton. Scott hits a tilt a whirl slam on Eaton. Scott shoulder blocks Eaton, but is knocked to the floor. Cactus strikes Scott and Anderson plants Scott with a DDT. Zbyszko enters and clubs on Scott. Scott hits a double under hook powerbomb for a two count. Bagwell hits a crossbody on Zbyszko for a two count. All eight men are in the ring brawling. Bagwell hits a fisherman suplex on Eaton, but Zbyszko breaks the cover and spikes Bagwell with a brainbuster for the three count. (**. Considering the name power in the match this was a bit underwhelming from an action standpoint. Bagwell taking the clean loss is not a surprise considering he’s a rookie and can take the loss and it doesn’t impact him at all. Dangerous Alliance need to win these kinds of matches to be seen as a threat to Sting now that he’s the champion. I don’t hate the booking.)
Final Thoughts:
Despite a lackluster main event, I thought this was a productive show. They had plenty of matches and the segment highlighting Rude/Sting has got me excited for a potential showdown between the two of them on PPV in the spring or summer, if that is what they are building toward. Rude/Sting is a strong main event program.
Thanks for reading.
