Lance Russell and Randy Hales are on commentary this week as Dave Brown has taken the day off. They rundown the card for the show.
Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt make their way out for an interview with Lance Russell. Gilbert puts over Randy Hales for putting together a good card tonight. Gilbert notes that Lawler isn’t on the show tonight. Gilbert says that ever since he’s arrived he hasn’t seen Lawler live on the TV show. Gilbert says it is his business as to why Lawler isn’t here. Gilbert takes credit for Lawler’s beating last week. Gilbert claims that Lawler was begging for the match to stop because he was getting his butt kicked. Gilbert says he’ll sue the promotion if they show video footage of the event. Eddie proclaims he’s the new king of Memphis and Lawler is a coward.
Opening Contest: Eddie Gilbert vs. Ken Raper: Gilbert leaves the ring to confront Randy Hales at the commentary table. Hales says they are tired of Gilbert trying to run the show. Gilbert doesn’t care that he’s getting counted out. Eddie demands that if Missy wants to commentate that she should be allowed to do so. Hales tells Gilbert that he’s not going to conduct business on the show. Gilbert tells Hales that this show is in fact his show. Hales tells Gilbert that he will not tell them how to run the show. Gilbert doesn’t care that he burned Jerry Jarrett last week with a fireball and is proud of that. Tommy and Doug Gilbert come out and attack Hales from behind. Gilbert tosses a fireball into Hales face, as well! The locker room comes out to check on Hales.
Lance Russell interviews Tommy and Doug prior to the next match. Russell says that Eddie has been suspended, but Tommy seems to dismiss that notion. Tommy has been thinking of ways to get Eddie Marlin out of wrestling and sit in his recliner. Tommy says that Marlin is going to have to worry about Doug now, too.
Second Contest: Tommy Gilbert & Doug Gilbert vs. Alan Reynolds & David Thompson: Doug quickly gets the win on Thompson, which is no surprise. After the match, Jeff Jarrett and Eddie Marlin make the save to prevent a post match attack.
Eddie Marlin goes to the announcers table and demands Missy Hyatt leave the area, which she does. Jeff Jarrett is with Marlin for the segment. Marlin says that nobody is going to be able to run them out of the area. Marlin promises to fight Tommy and he won’t lose to him. Marlin believes that Jarrett won’t give up because they are related. Jarrett chimes in and says he’s only been wrestling for two years and this week will be a fight. Eddie looks forward to getting even with Tommy. Eddie recently took ten lashes and we saw a picture of his bruised back.
Missy Hyatt is back at the table to replace Hales, but Russell notes that this isn’t official and she’s just out here.
Brother Ernest is back with Quiet Time from his home. Ernest is excited and knows the fans are too. Ernest is going to weed out the bogus wrestlers. Ernest assures us he’s not bogus and that he is our friend. Ernest reads a letter about a fan sending him money from some rare artifacts that they sold recently.
Lance Russell grabs the phone and calls Jerry Lawler, which Hyatt doesn’t want to have happen. Russell has a difficult time making the call this week and they stall for some time.
Third Contest: CWA Heavyweight Champion & AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Maxx Payne & Gary Young vs. Rick Fontana & William Thompson: The champs win the match following a big splash by Payne.
Gary Young cuts a promo on Billy Travis saying that he is nothing to him. Payne is wearing face paint and is looking quite different than before. Brother Ernest chimes in and says that this time the giant is going to beat David. Payne chimes in and promises to tear Ken Wayne apart.
Lance Russell successfully calls Jerry Lawler and Missy Hyatt takes the phone asking why Lawler isn’t there. Lawler calls her a sleaze bag and recalls Rick Rude having a girl named Angel. Lawler threatens to hit her just like he did to Angel. Hyatt hangs up the phone.
Lance Russell interviews Ken Wayne, Billy Travis and the Bruise Brothers. Wayne says that Maxx Payne is real dumb. Wayne promises that Brother Ernest is going to throw money away and he’ll be there too to get some. Travis is interviewed next and says that you can’t take anything away from Gary Young. Travis promises that 1988 will be his year. Bruise Brothers are interviewed next. Russell says they are proud of the Bruise Brothers and they’ve been tag champions already. They only lost the titles because of Brother Ernest and they think they should get a rematch, but they’ve been avoided. That brings out Gary Young and Brother Ernest. Young denies any interference ever happening. Young wants them to put some money on the line. Ernest wants them to put money on the line to get a title match. Young will give them seven days to come up with whatever they’ve got.
Fourth Contest: Brickhouse Brown & Big Bad Jim vs. Rodney Napper & Doug Dancing: Jim played in the NFL for the Colts and is new to the area. Brown won the match following a top rope headbutt.
Missy Hyatt wants to talk about her designer clothing, but Lance Russell doesn’t care. They talk about the Renegade Rampage competition.
Main Event: Jeff Jarrett, Billy Travis & Ken Wayne vs. Larry Wright, Blue Knight & Keith Eric: As expected this was a squash match for the good guys. Travis gets the win following a double dropkick with Jarrett on Blue Knight.
Lance Russell and Missy Hyatt rundown what they saw on the show to finish the program.
Final Thoughts:
Eddie Gilbert is carrying TV and is becoming very obvious. There’s nothing even close to being as entertaining as the feud between Gilbert and Lawler. When that feuds ends they have nothing lined up to carry TV and that’s a little alarming.
