Rhodes tags in and atomic drops Austin followed by a clothesline for a two count. Rhodes arm drags Austin, but gets backed into the corner and fights free. Eaton tags into the contest, but backs off from Rhodes. They do a test of strength where Rhodes takes Eaton down and Windham delivers a strike from the apron. Rhodes keeps Eaton on the mat with an arm bar. Eaton backs Rhodes into a corner and they trade strikes with Rhodes getting the advantage. Rhodes leapfrogs over Eaton and Windham gets a two count. Austin is clotheslined by Windham and Eaton is decked by a clothesline, too. Austin tags into the match and Windham backs Austin into a corner to deliver right hands. Austin backdrops Windham to avoud a piledriver. Austin hits a gut wrench suplex and chokes Windham over the middle rope before jumping onto Windham’s back. Madusa cheap shots Windham from the floor as the referee was distracted.
Eaton backdrops Windham coming off the ropes. Austin returns to the match and knee lifts Windham. Rhodes tags in and strikes Austin several times. Rhodes decks Eaton off the apron. Rhodes responds with a leaping clothesline for a two count. Windham and Austin brawl to the floor. Rhodes kicks Eaton in the corner and hits a running bulldog for the win. (**1/4. A decent tag match. The clean finish doesn’t bother me as we head into War Games. The feud between WCW and the Dangerous Alliance have been back and forth. Eaton seems to be on the lower end of importance for the Dangerous Alliance. It lacked the intensity you’d maybe hope for, but it wasn’t a bad match.)
3.) Footage from WCW Saturday Night is shown where Barry Windham won the WCW Television Championship from Steve Austin in a best two out of three falls match.
4.) Cactus and Josh kickoff the tag match. They lockup, but neither man gets a clear advantage. Cactus eye pokes Josh followed by a strike. Josh delivers a forearm, but Cactus sends Josh into the corner shoulder first and pummels Josh with strikes in the corner. Josh counters with forearms, but DDP clotheslines Josh from behind on the apron. Cactus gouges Josh’s eyes while screaming into the camera. DDP tags in and double clotheslines Josh followed by elbow drops. Josh fights back with a chop, but is met with a boot. Cactus returns to the match and Josh dropkicks Cactus before tagging in JYD. JYD pummels Cactus with strikes and a headbutt. JYD headbutts Cactus to the mat. JYD runs into an elbow in the corner and DDP tags in to choke JYD over the ropes. DDP leaps over the top to drop JYD over the ropes for a two count. JYD strikes DDP and JYD gets double teamed. JYD clotheslines DDP to the mat and Cactus tags into the match. JYD strikes Cactus a few times, but Cactus fights back with right hands. JYD headbutts Cactus into the corner. Cactus eye rakes JYD and snapmares JYD to deliver a leg drop. Cactus controls JYD with a headlock, but doesn’t get a submission.
JYD elbows free from Cactus, but is met with an elbow strike. Cactus and JYD trade eye rakes and they collide on stereo clothesline attempts. DDP and Josh get tagged into the match. Josh is fired up and cleans house with strikes. DDP kicks Josh and hits a side Russian leg sweep. DDP heads to the top as JYD brawls with Cactus on the floor. Josh slams DDP off the top and delivers a scoop slam. Josh leaps off the top rope hitting the Northern Exposure for the win. (*1/2. The crowd couldn’t care any less about Josh and JYD. That’s at least how it comes across on TV.)
5.) Missy Does The Mail hosted by Missy Hyatt is next. Hyatt talks about the issues between Ricky Steamboat and Madusa. Hyatt has done some work and found out the truth. We see footage from Saturday Night recently where Rick Rude set the record straight regarding the allegations. Rude claimed that Steamboat had been harassing Madusa, but Hyatt doesn’t believe it. Several women in the crowd claimed they had been having an affair with Ricky Steamboat. This is obviously an attempt at trash TV that had been popularized on TV. Rude apologizes to Mrs. Steamboat for this coming out. Hyatt says that all three women had been seen with Paul E. Dangerously. Hyatt followed Madusa at a restaurant where Madusa told a waitress where the stalking happened, but Hyatt found out Steamboat was in a different state competing for WCW. Hyatt never tried to destroy someone’s family and warns Madusa to not lie and ruin a man. Hyatt brags she’s the first lady of WCW.
6.) Anderson wants to shake hands with Koloff, which Koloff accepts. Koloff puts a headlock on Anderson for the early advantage. Koloff shoulder blocks Anderson and taunts him for a moment. Koloff puts a headlock on Anderson and delivers another shoulder block. Anderson drop toe holds Koloff, but Koloff quickly counters on the mat. Koloff gets Anderson’s shoulders down on the mat for a two count. Koloff keeps a hammerlock on Anderson, but is met with an elbow. Anderson climbs to the top, but Koloff is up and scared Anderson. Anderson bails to the floor to regroup. Anderson puts a wrist lock on Koloff to gain control of the match. Koloff counters with a wrist lock and yanks Anderson’s arm. Koloff strikes Anderson over the arm. Anderson shoulder rams Koloff, but Koloff knocks Anderson to the mat and keeps arm control. Anderson punches Koloff away and strikes Koloff several times in the corner with left hands. Anderson continues with another wrist lock and stomps Koloff on the knee. Anderson takes Koloff down and delivers a knee drop to the arm. Anderson keeps a hammerlock on Koloff and uses the ropes for leverage, but Koloff doesn’t submit nor does Koloff stay down for a cover attempt. Anderson strikes Koloff in the corner a few times. Koloff blocks a kick in the corner and atomic drops Anderson into the corner chest first. Koloff punches Anderson several times in the corner. Anderson flops to the mat and Koloff plays to the crowd. Koloff hits Anderson with a leaping shoulder block. Koloff ducks a clothesline, but Anderson holds onto the ropes. Koloff delivers the Russian Sickle, but Bobby Eaton enters and attacks Koloff causing the disqualification. After the match, Dustin Rhodes slides into the ring to help Koloff. Steve Austin enters to help out his pals beatdown Koloff and Rhodes. Barry Windham runs into the ring to even the odds as the segment ends. (*1/2. A bit of a slower match as this was mostly brawling based and there wasn’t a lot of actual wrestling taking place. The aftermath was fine and a bit predictable as they lead into WrestleWar War Games.)
Final Thoughts:
An average episode at best this week as we got one decent tag match, but everything else was a bit underwhelming. I think we’ve reached a point of repetitiveness, but luckily Wrestle War is almost here and then there will be a reset, I’m sure.
Thanks for reading.
