1.) Ramon starts off taunting Virgil to begin the match, but Virgil doesn’t backdown. Ramon backs Virgil into a corner, but Virgil pushes Ramon away. Ramon locks in a spinning toe hold, but Virgil doesn’t give up despite being in agony. Virgil kicks Ramon into the corner and gets a two count with a rollup. Virgil kicks Ramon away in the corner and hits a middle rope clothesline. Ramon stops Virgil’s attempt of a backdrop and hits the Razors Edge for the win. (*. Well, it’s likely official that Virgil is an enhancement talent for the WWF and will not have much substance other than jobbing to the bigger names. Virgil peaked at SummerSlam ’91, and has consistently dropped down the card. Virgil is a rare wrestler where he’s gotten worse over time instead of better. I’m not sure how that can happen.)
2.) Vince McMahon, Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect are on the panel this week. They talk about Razor Ramon, who Heenan and Perfect like to see be successful. Duggan admits that Ramon looks good, but mentions Randy Savage because he’s his friend. Perfect notes we’ll hear from the WWF World Champion Ric Flair on the show.
3.) The panel talk about WWF World Champion Ric Flair and a potential match with Crush. Heenan says that Flair would take Crush down to the mat and have his way with him. Heenan doesn’t want to talk about the Ultimate Warrior.
4.) The panel talks about Razor Ramon and Randy Savage. Hillbilly Jim says that Savage has never been treated the way he was before and notes it took four guys to take the title from him. Perfect brags about Flair being the WWF World Champion and that’s all that matters.
5.) Maggs backs Skinner into a corner and shoves him before standing there ready for a fight. Skinner knocks Maggs to the mat, but then slowly backs off. Skinner sends Maggs into the ropes and is met with a shoulder block. Maggs controls Skinner with a headlock and keeps the hold locked in for a few moments. Maggs shoulder blocks Skinner and tries for a sunset flip, but Skinner kicks out at two. Skinner drives Maggs down to the mat face first and taunts the crowd by doing a dance on his knees. Skinner tosses Maggs over the top to the floor. Skinner continues to work over Maggs on the floor and returns to the ring continuing to dance a little bit. Skinner chokes Maggs over the top rope and slingshots Maggs backwards to the mat. Skinner rubs Maggs face on the mat causing Maggs to stagger into the corner. Skinner strikes Maggs and rams Maggs into the corner face first. Skinner kneels on Maggs throat and taunts the referee. Skinner drives Maggs down with a shoulder breaker for a two count. Skinner spikes Maggs with a piledriver, but Maggs apparently barely kicks out. Skinner forearms Maggs to drop Maggs to the mat. Skinner kicks Maggs and hits a reverse DDT for the win. (*. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed Skinner showing personality in the sense of dancing around and interacting with the fans so much. I enjoyed this a little more than I expected to, but it did drag a bit for the sake of Skinner being a heel and pulling Maggs up a few times on pin attempts.)
6.) WWF World Champion Ric Flair joins the show via satellite. Flair brags about having the championship back on his shoulder. Jim Duggan quickly chimes in and asks why Flair had to cheat. Flair is offended by the suggestion that he’s one of the best wrestlers and not the best wrestler. Duggan doubles down on what he said. Flair claims he simply outperforms other wrestlers. Flair says he’s a team with Heenan and Perfect. Flair proclaims that they are the WWF and they are the big time. Flair says that the Ultimate Warrior isn’t going to get in the way of that.
7.) Bossman shoves Martel into a corner and Martel complains of a hair pull, but Bossman denies that to the referee. Bossman shoves Martel into the ropes, and Martel complains about hair pulling again. Bossman pie faces Martel into the ropes. Martel knee lifts Bossman followed by several strikes in the corner. Bossman hip tosses Martel coming out of the corner and Martel rolls to the floor to regroup. Martel jabs Bossman on the floor, but Bossman fights back ramming Martel onto the apron face first and they return to the ring. Bossman counters a backdrop with an uppercut. Bossman controls Martel with a wrist lock and wrenches Martel’s arm. Martel tries to reach the ropes, but Bossman yanks Martel to the mat and messes up Martel’s hair. Bossman backs Martel into a corner and delivers a strike several times. Bossman misses a splash as Martel moves out of the way. Martel kicks Bossman in the ribs several times. Martel knee drops Bossman followed by several knee lifts to the midsection. Martel strikes Bossman in the midsection as Bossman came off the ropes. Martel climbs to the top rope, but Bossman crotches Martel. Bossman pummels Martel in the corner and delivers an elbow strike. Bossman rams Martel into the corner face first several times. Martel grabs Arrogance, but Bossman grabs his nightstick and they have a standoff in the middle of the ring. The referee calls for the bell and both men have been disqualified. (1/2*. There wasn’t much going on for the match and the finish was lame as hell the crowd didn’t respond to the finish it was done that poorly.) After the match, Bossman stomps Arrogance to break it.
8.) The match between Papa Shango and Tito Santana took place at SummerSlam, but didn’t air on the PPV telecast.
9.) Shango attacks Santana from behind to kickoff the match. Shango chokes Santana in the corner followed by a kick to the midsection. Shango breaks free by ramming Santana face first into the turnbuckle. Shango stomps Santana on the mat and chokes Santana briefly. Shango slams Santana hitting an elbow drop. Shango drops Santana to the mat with a headbutt and taunts the crowd. Shango delivers a boot to the midsection and an overhand strike to the back of Santana. Shango drives Santana to the mat with a side slam. Shango leaps off the middle rope missing an elbow drop. Santana kicks Shango several times in the corner followed by right hands. Santana backdrops Shango coming off the ropes and signals for a forearm smash. Santana hits the flying forearm, but Shango kicks out at two! Shango sends Santana chest first into the corner and hits a shoulder breaker to pickup the clean victory. (*1/2. Not too bad of a match and a better performance from Shango than I was expecting since Shango tends to be protected by squash matches on television. Santana did a great job of putting Shango over here and getting a decent match out of him. This may be the biggest win of Shango’s career to this point since he never defeated Warrior during their feud or anything.)
10.) Previously promoted as the Samoans, this is the first instance of the Headshrinkers being promoted under the Headshrinkers name. It would stick for the remainder of their run in the WWF. Several fans on the floor level stood up to applaud the performance of the Headshrinkers.
11.) WWF World Champion Ric Flair joins the show at the end to talk about the bond between Savage and Warrior, the Ultimate Maniacs. Flair says there’s one bond that matters and it’s between Flair, Heenan and Perfect. Flair declares they run the show.
Final Thoughts:
The featured matches this week didn’t stand out all that much. Shango getting a clean win is a good development as he needs some wins to look like a viable heel against the bigger names, which wasn’t accomplished with Warrior. The Headshrinkers came across as a badass team and work a style that is different than everyone else and should easily get over as heels.
Thanks for reading.
