An enjoyable opener to their first show in a new market. I’m very happy to see they went with a clean finish and there wasn’t any BS attached to it. I’ve been digging Abercrombie the more I see of him so having him as the champion seems to be a good direction to go in.)

Punk falls to the mat and Homicide hits the diving headbutt for a two count. Homicide misses a lariat and Punk nearly wins with an inside cradle. Homicide rolls over on the cradle and manages to pin Punk. (*1/2. I don’t think these guys meshed very well. The action wasn’t very entertaining and they didn’t do much of anything of excitement. It felt really standard and almost something you’d see on a WWE live event. So, in that regard, it’s good to Punk already have that style perfected.)
Third Contest: IWA MS Women’s Champion MsChif vs. Mickie Knuckles vs. Allison Danger in an elimination match: They start off kind of awkwardly delivering strikes to each other. Each women attempts to get control of the match but they are stopped by one of their opponents. MsChif missed a slap to Knuckles and has to do it again. Danger gets slapped by both women after taunting both of them. Danger gets tossed with an exploder suplex. Knuckles takes both women out with a suicide dive and seemingly hits her face on the floor. The fans were shocked by that one. Knuckles and Danger trade strikes on the floor until MsChif dives off the top to hit a crossbody. Danger drives MsChif down with a neckbreaker on the floor. MsChif puts her spiked dress on Knuckles face and hits a running knee strike. Knuckles has been busted wide open. A new referee comes out and Knuckles kicks out at two. Knuckles gets a second wind and nails MsChif with a shining kick to win the match and title. After the match, the locker room empties to celebrate with Knuckles. (**. The start was a little clunky and awkward, but once they got past the triple threat counters and other nonsense, it became a decent brawl between the three women. I’m thinking we’ll see a Knuckles/Danger match at some point considering Danger wasn’t actually eliminated.)
Fourth Contest: Tracy Smothers vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Smothers takes Castagnoli down to the mat for the early advantage, but that doesn’t last long. They counter each other on wrist locks. Castagnoli leaps off the top but misses an elbow drop and Smothers nearly wins with a rollup. Jade Chung distracts Smothers again and Castagnoli decks Smothers with a chain to win the match. (*1/2. I was kind of disappointed with what they went with here. It was very slow for the most part and the action wasn’t really holding my attention. There were a few sprints of decent action as Claudio looked good and Smothers took a few good bumps. However, this was a match that didn’t need to go 18-minutes and would have been better suited going half that amount time.)

Kingston took a nice bump off the apron on the head scissors, but this was mostly just basic brawling to fill time. The final elimination was something I wasn’t expecting. Sal and Vito winning is probably the right decision, and they did so in a clean manner, well, for a tables match, at least.)

Pondo gets killed with stereo chair shots and Axl pins Pondo to win the match. (NR. I mean, this was just gross. Klein was bleeding bucket within a minute and it was just six guys destroying each other in a manner that was not appealing and it was truly disgusting.) After the match, Pondo is pouring blood out of his head and they naturally zoom in on that.

Jacobs hits the Contra Code to win the match. (**. I was just waiting for the kind of finish to protect Hero from taking a clean loss and yet again we get one. It felt like they didn’t get the crowd invested into the action and it was a disappointing segment. The final match of the gauntlet was the best, but it couldn’t save the segment from being mostly average and too long.)
Main Event: Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher: Joe shoves the referee to the floor and trades stiff shots with Butcher in the middle of the ring. After the match, Butcher gets to his feet and decks Joe with a few strikes. Joe heads backstage to avoid anything more with Butcher. Ian Rotten, yet again, comes out to cut a promo and steal the heat. It’s beyond comical at this point. (****. In no way was this a wrestling match. It came across like a complete fight and the crowd atmosphere was terrific here. This has a big match feel and it delivered. Butcher bleeding buckets added to the match and the story of Butcher actually being the underdog was presented well. If you enjoy hard hitting and borderline cringe worthy action, you’d really enjoy this one.)
The opening match was solid and the main event delivered a great hard hitting match. Everything in the middle of that was average at best or quite disappointing. Realistically, this show is a one match card as you probably should see Joe/Butcher at least once in your life. However, as a complete show, it’s not something I can recommend.
Thanks for reading.
