Main Event Prelude: Still a slightly fresh new face in the World Wrestling Federation, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Ken Shamrock was finally gained his WWF Championship opportunity after Bret “Hitman” Hart and the WWF parted ways in November of 1997. With the WWF‘s ‘bully stopper’ free of keeping the Hart Foundation and others in check, he was now able to set his sights on the biggest bully (and Degenerate) in the company, The WWF Champion “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. D-Generation X had nearly humiliated everyone who had crossed their path and by December of 1997, D-Generation X: In Your House, Shamrock would be their next hurdle.

The Main Event Aftermath: Ken Shamrock would go on to have a lengthy fued with the WWF Intercontinental Champion, Rocky Maivia. He would also win the 1998 King of the Ring tournament in June of that year. The match at In Your House may have ended in a draw, yet it had to be Shamrock who befitted more with it all said and done. From December 1997 through the better part of 1998, Shamrock was noted as a major player and asset of the WWF.
In 1998, Shawn Michaels suffered a legitimate back injury and was forced to retire after his Wrestlemania XIV match for the WWF Championship against “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. He would later make non-wrestling appearances and become the WWF Commissioner, joining Vince McMahon’s Corporation and becoming a villain. He would disappear from the wrestling scene until early 2000, announcing himself as the special guest referee for The Rock and Triple H’s Iron Man match.
