Written by: Bob Colling

World Wrestling Federation presents Action Zone
Date: 2/5/1995
From: South Padre Island, TX

Matches:
1.) WWF World Champion Diesel defeated Owen Hart to retain the title
2.) Duke Droese defeated Barry Horowitz
3.) Tatanka defeated Matt Hardy
4.) Doink defeated Greg Davis
5.) Kama defeated Charlie Hunter
6.) Hakushi defeated Shawn Dakota

Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) The WWF World Championship match has been joined in progress with Owen working over Diesel’s left leg. Owen splashes down onto Diesel’s knee and keeps Diesel on the mat. Owen taunts the crowd while stomping on Diesel’s knee. We go to commercial with Owen still in control of the match. Owen heads to the top rope and hits a missile dropkick. Diesel kicks Owen into the ring post shoulder first. Diesel works over Owen with a back elbow strike in the corner. Owen eye rakes Diesel and heads to the top rope. Owen gets crotched by Diesel on the top rope. Diesel gets a second wind as Owen is laid out on the mat. Diesel drops Owen to the mat after grabbing Owen by the hair and delivers an elbow drop. Diesel nails Owen with a big boot and plays to the crowd. Diesel plants Owen with the Jackknife to win the match. (*1/4. I’m not really sure what else Owen could do to Diesel offensively. It’s a good win for Diesel and Im was glad there was actually a clean finish to the match.) After the match, Shawn Michaels makes his way down to the aisle and stares down Diesel. Michales fakes going to the ring and walks backstage.

2.) Todd Pettengill is not on commentary with Jim Ross and instead it’s Vince McMahon. Could this be the end of Pettengill on commentary?

3.) Next week, Tatanka will be in singles action against Tatanka on Action Zone.

4.) Bob Backlund shared pre-tape comments saying that he’s not going to let go of the chicken wing and he’ll prove what he’s talking about next week. He wants opponents to yell “I Quit, Mr. Backlund”, apparently.

5.) Kama cuts a promo after his match, but the audio wasn’t dedicated to him. However, it’s noticeable that Kama was putting himself over as the supreme fighting machine.

6.) WWF Tag Team Champions the Smoking Gunns come out and thank the fans for their support as they have recently won the titles on the RAW after the Royal Rumble. Billy says they weren’t able to compete in the tournament, but they got their opportunity. They are going to give all the tag teams in the WWF a chance at the belts. Billy wants to prove they deserve to be the WWF Tag Team Champions.

Final Thoughts:

I’m not sure how much of the Diesel/Owen match was cutoff, but it was cool to have that big of a match on the program. It wasn’t a thrilling bout, but having big stars on Action Zone is good. The enhancement matches this week weren’t too bad, either. I’d consider this a solid overall episode.

Thanks for reading.
