Matches:
1.) Road Dogg & X-Pac defeated D’Lo Brown & Chaz
2.) WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Dean Malenko defeated Just Joe to retain the title
3.) Hardy Boys defeated Bull Buchanan & The Goodfather
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Pac and Brown kickoff the tag match. Brown shoulder blocks Pac, but Pac delivers a few kicks only for Brown to hit a tilt a whirl slam. Chaz leaps off the top to hit a double axe handle. Pac comes off the ropes and is met with a snap powerslam for a two count. Lo Down hit a double leg drop on Pac. Dogg gets decked by Chaz, but Pac drops Chaz with a spinning heel kick. Dogg legally enters and stomps away on Chaz. Pac gets tagged back into the ring and delivers a few kicks to Chaz in the corner. Pac hits the bronco buster in the corner and taunts the fans. Chaz comes off the ropes to hit a leaping clothesline on both men. Brown enters the match and cleans house with strikes. Brown plants Pac with a sit out spinebuster. Dogg misses a splash in the corner and Dogg is driven down with a double powerbomb. Pac low blows Brown and hits the X-Factor. Dogg covers Brown and wins the match. (*1/2. I honestly thought this was going to be a Lo Down victory since Pac and Dogg have been having a friendly rivalry. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to give Lo Down a huge victory. Clearly Low Down doesn’t have much of a direction in the WWF.)
2.) Backstage, Lita is walking in catering when Goodfather and Steven Richards notice her and her exposed thong. Richards isn’t happy with that nor is Goodfather. They aren’t going to have people walking around half naked.
3.) Big Bossman comes out and says that he’s not a bully because he goes around beating everyone up. The problem is with Crash Holly and suggests it’s a personality difference. Bossman can’t stand everything about Crash Holly. Bossman again says it has nothing to do with little people because they make him laugh. This all has to do with attitude. Crash Holly ends up running down to the ring and spears Bossman to deliver a few strikes. Bossman stops Crash with a throat thrust and a big boot. Bossman tosses Crash over the top to the floor to end the segment.
4.) Backstage, Mideon is trying to get something out of the vending machine. Essa Rios is annoyed by Mideon taking forever. Mideon insults Dean Malenko saying he wrestles girls. Just Joe was there and he ends up leaving. Mideon thinks Dean Malenko is just like his dollar, they are both useless.
5.) Backstage, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy confront Bull Buchanan saying that they don’t appreciate what Right To Censor have been bothering Lita. Matt warns Bull to not touch Lita tonight.
6.) Backstage, WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Dean Malenko is getting a massage from his women. Just Joe enters and tries to tell Malenko something. Malenko doesn’t care what Joe is telling him. Malenko wants Joe to leave and knows that Joe is just trying to get him to wrestle Mideon. Malenko challenges Joe to a match instead.
7.) Taka Michinoku and Funaki come out and reveal they have paid the APA to work for them. APA come out and say they get paid in beer, cash and more beer. Faarooq says they have a problem because their check bounced. They proceed to attack them. Faarooq plants Taka with a spinebuster and Bradshaw powerbombs Funaki. Faarooq hits the Dominator on Taka. Despite there being a referee, that wasn’t a match.
8.) Malenko drop toe holds Joe to the mat and keeps control with a head scissors. Malenko kicks Joe on the arm and dropkicks Joe’s arm over the top rope. Joe plants Malenko with a single arm DDT. Joe leg drops Malenko’s arm and keeps an am submission on for a moment. Joe hits a side Russian leg sweep and lifts Malenko into the air with a chicken wing. Malenko breaks free and is met with an arm drag. Malenko takes Joe down to the mat with another head scissors. Joe savant kicks Malenko, but misses another kick in the corner. Malenko heel kicks Joe followed by a snap suplex for a two count. Malenko tries for the Cloverleaf and switches to a rollup for a near fall. They trade a series of pin attempts. Malenko misses a clothesline and is met with a kick to the head. Joe catches Malenko in the corner and they collide heads. Joe tries to use the championship, but Malenko manages to rollup Joe from behind to win the match. (*1/4. I don’t think these two meshed very well at all. I think Joe needs to work with people closer to is style to really see how well he can go in the ring.)
9.) Backstage, Lita is on the phone when Steven Richards approaches her. Richards wishes the Hardy Boys luck tonight in the tag match. Richards also notices that Lita hasn’t pulled her pants up yet. Richards has a problem with that and censors them when that’s the case. Richards suggests he could do something more severe. Lita agrees with Richards but then decks Richards with the phone.
10.) Jeff and Goodfather kickoff the tag team main event with Goodfather working over Jeff with several strikes to keep Jeff on the mat. Jeff ducks a clothesline and dropkicks Goodfather followed by a drop toe hold. Jeff hammers away on Goodfather but is met with a short arm clothesline. Bull tags in and sends Jeff into the corner, but Jeff avoids Bull and hits a dropkick from behind. Matt tags in and Bull is met with standing senton and a fist drop for a two count. Bull misses a splash in the corner and Matt leaps off the middle rope to hit a leg drop. Matt continues to work over Bull with right hands, but Goodfather knee lifts Matt allowing Bull to hit a clothesline and scoop slam. Goodfather enters and Matt runs into a double big boot. Goodfather chokes Matt over the top rope followed by a forearm strike to the chest. Goodfather clotheslines Matt and Bull enters to double team Matt while the referee was distracted. Bull drives Matt down with a backbreaker. Matt plants Bull with a tornado DDT. Jeff his the Whisper In The Wind on Bull and Matt clotheslines Goodfather. Poetry in Motion on Bull, but Goodfather clotheslines Jeff to the floor. Bull hits a flapjack on Matt, but Lita leaps pff the top to hit a hurricanrana! Jeff sends Goodfather into the post. Matt hits the Twist of Fate and Jeff hits the Swanton to pin Bull for the win. (**. A decent main event that was rather basic. I was surprised that the RTC lost clean here. It seems like the RTC would be the kind of group to get cheap wins and a cheap win seemed to be a logical choice here. But, since the Hardy’s are in a big SummerSlam match it makes sense for them to continue their momentum.)
Final Thoughts:
Action wise this show was a little lackluster, but there were a few angles developed seemingly for Heat only, which is neat.
Thanks for reading.
