Main Event Prelude: In the World Wrestling Federation’s first ever boiler room brawl, The Undertaker was pitted against WWF-newcomer Mankind. The rules were simple, escape the arena’s boiler room, reach the ring and retrieve the sacred urn from Paul Bearer. After refusing to hand the Undertaker the urn, Paul Bearer seemingly aligned himself with Mankind, allowing Mankind to win the match. After ending his relationship with The Undertaker for the time being, Paul Bearer would now accompany Mankind, with Mankind often referring to the man as “Uncle Paul”. With Paul Bearer at his side, Mankind would soon earn a number one contendership spot to face the WWF Champion Shawn Michaels. With the then newcomer now under the guidance of Paul Bearer, it was settled, the two would face off at In Your House 10: Mind Games.

NOTE: The title “Mind Games” is significant because Mankind enters with the same casket The Undertaker would bring to the while he was managed by Paul Bearer. No doubt this is to play physiological games with not only the WWF Champion Shawn Michaels, but perhaps The Undertaker as well.

The Main Event Aftermath: Shawn Michaels would pick up the victory against Mankind due to a disqualification via interference by Vader and The Undertaker. This led Mankind back to the Undertaker and Michaels onto Vader. Michaels would lose the WWF Championship just two months later at WWF Survivor Series against his former bodyguard, Sycho Sid. Paul Bearer would later on take a leave of absence due to Mankind suffering a feud-ending loss against The Undertaker for the WWF Championship.  For several years after, Mick Foley considered this match his best ever saying, “Sure, at 280 pounds I still looked like hell, but after a brutal cardiovascular training regimen, I was able to go full-tilt for twenty-seven minutes with a smaller, quicker, better athlete than me.”

Some say it was the main event alone that made the “throw away” pay-per-view worth the watch. The main event between Shawn Michaels and Mankind is widely considered a “forgotten classic” and is generally overlooked when most consider the all-time greatest matches ever. It is a match I suggest to all, for at least one watch through.
