From: Detroit, MI
Matches:
1.) Davey Boy Smith defeated Joey Abs
2.) Essa Rios & Lita defeated Taka Michinoku & Funaki
3.) The Godfather defeated D’Lo Brown
Angle Developments/Notes:
1.) Smith comes off the ropes with a shoulder block to knock Abs to the floor. Rodney and Pete Gas are at ringside and yell at the referee. Abs gets back in the ring to hammer away on Smith. Smith hip tosses Abs followed by right hands against the ropes. Smith gets tripped by Gas and Abs knocks Smith to the floor. Gas and Rodney get several cheap shots in before rolling Smith back into the ring. Abs drives Smith down to the mat with a vertical suplex for a near fall. Abs continues to work over Smith with right hands and stomps in the corner. Abs powerslams Smith followed by a splash off the middle rope. Abs sends Smith through the middle rope to the floor where Rodney and Gas get more cheap shots in. Gas chokes Smith over the top rope while the referee was distracted. Abs takes Smith over with a gut wrench slam. Abs scoop slams Smith but misses an elbow drop off the middle rope. Smith backdrops Abs followed by vertical suplex. Smith drives Abs down with a running powerslam out of the corner for the win. (*. Most of the match was just Smith dealing with interference. There wasn’t a whole lot going on here and wasn’t very good.)
2.) Earlier today, WWF European Champion Eddie Guerrero and Chyna arrived to Freedom Hall for Judgment Day. Dean Malenko comes over tells Chyna to stay out of their business. Chyna winks when she says she’ll stay out of it. Saturn comes over and tells Malenko he’s going to win tonight.
3.) Rios backdrops Taka and connects with a baseball slide head scissors on the floor. Funaki trips Rios allowing Taka to get some control Lita gets in the ring and along with Rios they dropkick Taka and Funaki to the floor. Rios dropkicks Funaki sending him to the floor and Rios dropkicks Taka to the floor. Rios is caught on a crossbody but Lita leaps off the apron to finish the move. Lita takes Funaki over with a head scissors and comes off the middle rope with a corkscrew dive on Funaki. Funaki cuts off Rios and tags in Taka. Rios arm drags Taka but Funaki holds Rios with a chin lock allowing Taka to deliver a dropkick. Rios chops Funaki against the ropes but misses a splash into the ropes. Taka works over Rios with right hands in the corner. Taka counters a head scissors driving Rios down to the mat gut first. Taka hits Rios with a knee strike and a missile dropkick. Taka signals for the Michinoku Driver, but Rios counters with a DDT. Lita gets tagged in as does Funaki. All four wrestlers are going at it until Rios and Lita get met with clotheslines. Taka superkicks Funaki on accident. Rios takes Taka down with a tilt a whirl slam and they hit stereo moonsaults off the top for the win. (*1/2. They did a few good spots, but I’m growing a little tired of the relationship between Rios and Lita. It was cool at first, but it’s losing that spark.)
4.) At Freedom Hall, Stephanie McMahon walked out of Shawn Michaels locker room. Michaels soon left his room and entered WWF World Champion The Rock’s locker room.
5.) Godfather asks D’Lo Brown why he turned on him a month ago and asks if D’Lo didn’t like hanging out with the hoes late at night. Brown says simply Godfather sucks.
6.) Godfather blocks a right hand and knocks Brown down with a clothesline followed by right hands in the corner. Godfather sends Brown to the corner and goes for a clothesline into the corner, but Brown bails to the floor. Brown sends Godfather shoulder first into the ring steps. Brown rolls Godfather into the ring and hammers away on Godfather followed by a heel kick. Brown scoop slams Godfather and connects with a leg drop. Godfather fights back with a few kicks but Brown cuts him off with a clothesline for a two count. Brown keeps Godfather on the mat with a sleeper hold. Brown knee lifts Godfather to drop him to the mat and heads to the top rope. Brown misses a springboard moonsault off the middle rope. Godfather clotheslines Brown a few times followed by a backdrop. Godfather leg drops Brown and plays to the crowd. Godfather hits the Ho Train followed by a running clothesline for the win. After the match, Brown attacks Godfather followed by the Sky High. Brown performs the Sky High on one of Godfather’s hoes! Brown goes to the top rope and hits the Lo Down off the top onto the hoe! (*. I’m getting confused with some of the direction. Brown got beaten relatively easily and the aftermath obviously means they are going to continue to feud. It was a quick match with the best stuff happening after the bell.)
7.) Vince McMahon makes his way out to the ring to finish off Heat from Freedom Hall. McMahon hypes up Judgment Day saying that the world as they know it is coming to an end. McMahon doesn’t think that the fans are ready for judgment day and considers the fans to be just like the Rock. McMahon is given another microphone and tells the person that it can be shoved up their ass. Vince says all the fans and the Rock are liars and cheaters. Vince says that everyone cheats on their taxes and in their relationships. They are all envious of everyone else. They are all greedy. The show comes to an end with McMahon still talking about Judgment Day.
Final Thoughts:
There wasn’t much going on to lead into Judgment Day. It was fine as a way to kill the final hour before the pay per view, but these shows don’t usually have anything good in-ring.
Thanks for reading.
