Opening Contest: Razor Ramon defeated Rick Martel to win the vacant WWF Intercontinental Championship:Martel with the advantage in the early stages of the contest with right hands and a drop toe hold. Ramon takes Martel down with a fall away slam. Ramon works on Martel shoulder with several shoulder blocks. Martel sends Ramon back first into the turnbuckles a couple of times. Martel goes for a cover using the ropes for leverage but the referee notices the effort. Martel locks in the Boston Crab but Ramon is fairly close to the ropes and manages to reach the ropes fairly quickly. Martel with a nice side slam and goes back to the Boston Crab in the middle of the ring. A good series of pin fall attempts by both men with Martel gaining the advantage with a dropkick. Ramon attempted a middle rope back suplex but Martel fights off. Martel leaps off the top rope connecting with a flying cross body but Ramon reverses into a cover of his own for a near fall. Ramon with a knee to the face of Martel and plants Martel with the Razors Edge for the win and title. **1/2
After the match, Ramon celebrates and the fans love it.
Second Contest: The Headshrinkers versus Tommy Morrison/Sid Curtis
Headshrinkers with complete control, as expected. Double face plant on Curtis. Fatu connects with a splash off the top turnbuckle for the win.
Third Contest: Owen Hart defeated Scott King: Owen with control early on with a few arm locks to wear down King. Own with a scoop slam, side slam and a vertical suplex. Owen with a flying elbow drop. King comes off the ropes but is planted with a nice belly to belly suplex. Owen with a missile dropkick and a bridge suplex for the win.
Vince McMahon is in the ring and introduces Ludvig Borga for a special interview. Crowd chants “USA” which bothers Borga. Borga says that USA stands for “You.. Stink.. A lot”. Borga insults America as not being able to spell, or work. He hates pollution, thus he hates America. Borga doesn’t understand why Lex Luger supports America. McMahon tells Borga that Luger is in the building. Borga calls Luger a loser just like all Americans. Lex Luger makes his way out after that comment. Luger says he is sick and tired of Borga insulting America while Borga is living in the United States. Luger tells Borga to “Love it or Leave it”. Luger wants to fight Borga right now. Borga says he fights when he wants to fight. Borga proceeds to leave the ring as the crowd supports Luger.
Fourth Contest: Adam Bomb defeated Russ Greenberg: Over the weekend, Johnny Polo sold the contract of Adam Bomb to Harvey Whippleman. Bomb connects with a slingshot shoulder block from the apron back into the ring. Bomb plants Greenberg with the Adam Smasher for the win.
Vince, Randy and Bobby hype up the Randy Savage/Crush summit on next week’s show. Savage says that they are friends and that they will be able to work everything out. Savage says that Crush is smart enough to not fight him.
Main Event: Rock N’ Roll Express defeated Duane Gill/Barry Hardy: Heenan says that Razor Ramon has just retired after winning the WWF Intercontinental Championship. As for the match, Gibson holds Hardy up in the air and Morton connects with a clothesline coming off the ropes for a near fall. Double dropkick on Hardy moments later for the win.
To end the show, we see footage of Razor Ramon winning the WWF Intercontinental Championship earlier in the show.
Tatanka, IRS, and the Steiner Brothers will be in action next week. Also, the Randy Savage/Crush summit will be taking place next week.
My Take: Razor Ramon and Rick Martel had a pretty solid contest to start the show. Ramon going over had to be expected as he has been getting a very good reaction from the crowd for several months now. Borga/Luger had a good segment which will help both men. Borga being put in a angle with someone like Luger will help him become a top tier talent. Luger will be helped out when he actually manages to win a big match. Owen Hart looked good on this show as well. Not quite sure why the Rock N’ Roll Express are in the WWF. They are nowhere near being in the demographic that the WWF currently targets.
